Tragically, the iconic Parisian landmark caught fire on April 15, 2019. The fire consumed the cathedral’s spire and Medieval roof, but luckily, the famed bell tower’s Rose Window and the centuries-old organ was spared. Though cathedral entry is suspended at the moment, you can appreciate the beautiful facade from afar. Visit a nearby cafe, welcome your morning with a cup and a hope of a future where all is restored to its former grandeur.

As you approach the Eiffel tower, you may be put off by the crowd of tourists and vendors selling knick-knacks. You may want to head over to the nearby Croatian Embassy instead to find a quiet yet amazing vantage point. The Eiffel Tower is open all year from 9 am until 12 am. 7. Visit Musée de l’Orangerie

9. Be astonished at the Palais Garnier – Opera National de Paris

11. Climb the top of the Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806. The impressive and elaborate structure was created to celebrate France’s victories.

The Arc is also home to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a memorial for soldiers that died in war but could not be identified. If you go to the top of the Arc, you will find one of the most picturesque views of Paris. It is spectacular at night, with the Eiffel Tower sparkling among the city lights. 16. Brave the dark and go underground to the Paris Catacombs (Les Catacombes de Paris)

The Paris Catacombs, tunnels lined with human bones, are not for the faint of heart. It holds the remains of over 6 million people, in part to address the overflowing cemeteries in Paris.

You can visit during the day or night, but for an exceptionally eerie experience, we recommend the night tour to see the dark side of Paris. Only 200 people at a time are allowed to visit the Catacombs, so the lines get long. To avoid the crowds,line up very early (i.e. before it opens at 10 am) or go 1-2 hours before closing at 8:30 pm. You can also buy your tickets ahead online and choose your time slot. The Catacombs are closed on Mondays.

Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann is the flagship store of the upscale department store chain. It is one of the iconic landmarks in Paris and a destination for tourists.

Every Christmas, the building is decorated lavishly, taking the Paris shopping experience to a new level. 21. Appreciate modern art at the Louis Vuitton Foundation

The Louis Vuitton Foundation is a contemporary art museum and cultural center. It is a gorgeous modern addition to the Parisian skyline.

The building is made out of huge sails is a work of art by itself and was designed by famed architect Frank Gehry. It houses the private collection of the iconic Bernard Arnault, LVMH group’s chairman and CEO, as well as hosts various global exhibitions. Take a breather from the historic Paris and check out more modern takes that push the boundaries of art further. The Foundation also has a restaurant and boutique for souvenirs.

Admission is at €16; the Foundation is open from 11 am to 8 pm on weekdays, 10 am to 8 pm on weekends and holidays and is closed on Tuesday.

22. See Paris up high at the Montparnasse Tower Observation Deck

The Montparnasse Tower, at 210m above ground, is the tallest skyscraper in Paris. The black, modern building contrasted with the Parisian aesthetic was initially met with public outrage.

However, given the height of the building, the tower’s observation deck is the perfect place to get a panoramic view of Paris, with the Eiffel Tower in it. If you want a scenic photo or a view of the Paris landscape with the Eiffel Tower, this is the place for you. Tickets to the observation deck costs €18 per entry. Another option is to get the Day/Night ticket, which allows you to visit the top of the tower twice within 48 hours so you can enjoy both day and night views.

23. Take up a history lesson at the Conciergerie

The Conciergerie has been part of Paris’ history in one form or another over the years. It was formerly the residence of kings and a prison for traitors.

It is one of the most historically significant buildings in Paris. The Conciergerie is also host to exhibitions showcasing the rich history of the building and Paris.
